What are you doing?

It's sad and cowardly to accept that you die? Hardly. And nor is it sad and cowardly to accept that everything comes to and end, including (likely sooner rather than later) our civilization. This is just reality, however unsettling you or anyone else might find it.

For all that we as a species have collectively achieved

Bringing about the 6th mass extinction, you mean?

The idea that human 'achievements' (scare quotes are necessary here, I think) have some kind of galactic-level importance and that the universe itself should sit up and pay attention to us is a common enough thought but it reveals a terrifying level of narcissism, which is (not incidentally) one of the reasons we're in this situation in the first place. With a little more realism and a lot more humility, we might not have been such a colossal fuck up.

What good was any of it.

It was neither good nor bad. It just was.
