What are we doing with Schwarber next year?

Remember that injuries can and will happen. Was it Maddon or another coach that said (paraphrasing) "these things tend to work themselves out for you."

I think you'll see a lot more rest for regular players. No sense in grinding them through a long season, even if lots of them are young and energetic, if there are so many good options.

But to answer the question, I think they'll try to throw Schwarber out there to catch once a turn in the rotation, and let Willson and Montero handle the rest. Start him in LF, also sub in Zobrist a couple times a week. You'll see Baez play all over the field. 2B, giving Bryant and Russell a day off. Depending on what happens with CF, you might see Heyward play more there. Even if they hand the reigns to Almora, I'm not sure he's an every day guy yet, so you may see Heyward there frequently too.

I think Heyward will be much improved next year. I'm betting that his early season wrist injury was a real factor and his mechanics got too far out of whack. But if he's not, I think Maddon will be faster to bench him some days, rather than playing every. single. day.

I think Rizzo and Russell are the only guys you can count on to play the vast majority of the season at one position.
