What are a few brands that started out with poor quality but have made their way to BIFL status now?

Porches have these super odd problems like "rear main seals failing" and other things that are basically just design flaws that are very common to fail.

Take all this with a grain of salt because this is based on my dad's research not mine.

So basically in my dad's car wear starts to break down a super vital part of the engine and once it gets to a certain point the engine is basically fucked. Whatever that part is has started to fail and has compromised the entire engine. So sure you can keep driving on it, but at some point its just going to fail. At that point you need a new engine. If you were a shitty person you could try and sell it as is but you would have to hide the fact that a mechanic told you the car was fucked.

Used engines... well remember what I just said, a used engine? Well the only way you are going to get a good used engine is if the car was wrecked. No one is going to pull a good engine from one of those cars to try and sell, the whole package would be worth way way more. How many 911's get wrecked and the engine is intact? Not a lot and you can imagine that there are a lot of guys like my dad that want that used engine that is in great shape, so the price doesn't go much down.

So what do you do in my dad's spot? You drop a huge amount of cash to get a new engine in a car that has been unreliable as fuck and other than the engine you still have all these horrible problems. And then when that engine breaks down? Or it leaves you stranded due to electrical problems on a road trip? What good is that car other than being able to sometimes go fast and look cool.

My dad bought an FBI Ford Crown Victoria and he loved the hell out of that car, I think he liked it more than the porche. Hell when I visited last I drove it and I was like, this ain't too bad (I drive a WRX and 135i). Good power and torque, super comfy, plenty of room.

Anyway i'm rambling, I'll never own a porche
