What are the implications of "Eternal Oblivion" on our life?

My opinion is you kind of sound like a sociopath. Is the concept of an afterlife really the only reason you don't "go nuts" in your life? If so, I really hope you never lose your faith.

That's unfortunate, because that's really not how I wanted to come off. I'll see if i can formulate my post to be a bit more sensible. Just for the record: By "going nuts" I don't mean running around and hurting people. It was a light hearted joke that doesn't seem to have carried over the intended nature :(

The thing that worries me about your post is that you make no mention of other people. Humans are social mammals, our connections with our families and other fellow humans is important to us. My life isn't meaningless, because I leave behind accomplishments, both physical and social. I won't be around to enjoy them, but that's the way it is.

I totally agree. I too have friends and family that I hold dear and currently they are quite literally my only meaning. I wasn't attacking anyones subjective meaning and trying to belittle it. I just shared my struggles and thoughts on whether there is an "objective" one. At last my thought was, that if there is Eternal Oblivion after death, then there is no "objective" meaning, if there is an afterlife, then there is.

It looks like this whole thing turned into a trip straight to nihilism, which is still an interesting topic to talk about. That's why I made this thread. For discussion, not to pose with some supreme knowledge I have...

Wishing for some storybook heaven isn't going to make it so.

Yes, I also never claimed that...

And wishing for "relentless torture" to be enacted on people who grew up in a different culture than me is just appalling.

... And also not that, wtf?
