What are you making as a VP/Director/Head of Sales for an SaaS company - particularly start-up?

You really need to get a sense of how many shares they offer you and what percentage of the total available shares this represents. How early stage is the company are you looking at? Are you the first department head outside of the founders? If so you likely have room to negotiate. Ultimately I'd focus more on the other benefits such as work life balance, OTE, autonomy to build the team how you want etc. I have all those things in my role and it more than makes up for a lack of options.

There is a 99 percent chance any options you get will never be worth anything, but I understand not wanting to get shorted. I would find out what percentage your offer represents and go from there. It would shock me if it was more than half a percent at the most.
