What are the scariest states?

I always felt like my home state of Pennsylvania has a reputation for being haunted/creepy. Could be biased, but I'll try to explain why. PA alone has Eastern State Penitentiary, Centralia, Gettysburg, Pennhurst State School and Hospital, and much more. Penn State University is also reportedly one of the most haunted campuses in the country. Pittsburgh also has a lot of urban legends for some reason. We have [13 Bends]( https://www.trytoscare.me/legend/13-bends-pittsburgh-pa-2/), [Green Man's Tunnel](https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/green-man-s-tunnel), and [Dead Man's Hollow]( https://www.post-gazette.com/life/recreation/2017/10/16/Hike-looks-for/stories/201710100085] just to name a few. Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead were also filmed right near Pittsburgh, so the modern day depiction of the zombie was born there.

Why is PA like this? On the eastern side you have Philadelphia which is one of the oldest cities in the country and is seeped in history. Central PA is very rural with a lot of small towns that are also ripe with legends. Add on top of that Civil War locations like Gettysburg. And on the southwestern side you got Pittsburgh, which I find is much more obsessed with the paranormal than most other cities for some reason. I think it's due to the geography and location of the region and also thanks to the numerous amounts of Eastern European immigrants that came over during the steel and coal industry booms. My grandparents had numerous ghost stories for the mining town I grew up in.

I traveled a lot around the country and even in Europe, and I found that a lot of places don't have the paranormal fascination like we do in PA. The town I lived at in Germany was very historical but had no creepy urban legends, not even in the area around it. I'm in Texas currently and there are also none in the area that I'm living in. It makes me miss PA in some ways.
