What are some good cheap meals for students?

$1 CAD is equivalent to 75 cents USD, but a Canadian dollar often has less purchasing power than an American dollar. Canadians in big cities tend to earn similar salaries to Americans in big cities ($40k CAD vs $40k USD), but we have higher on average costs-of-living, like groceries, utilities, telecoms, and rent. New York City is actually cheaper to live in than Toronto or Vancouver, for example. Obviously this all goes out the window when you take into account more rural states where they have very, very deflated incomes and a lot of poverty, or the people who work minimum wage jobs in states like Louisiana (iirc) where the min. wage is weirdly low. But for an average middle-class professional, like lots of folks on reddit, your dollar goes further in the USA.
