Patient cannot move any limbs and has acute stroke, 2 septic patients, and 2 patients glucose >500 on night float beep beep, nurse: stable patient's family wants to talk to you about there medical condition. me: im busy i have very sick patients give me 45 minutes. 45 minutes later: nurse: patients family wants to talk to you about stable patient me: please tell them it has to wait until the morning, many unstable patients. nurse: but they are waiting and want to talk, me: eye starts twitching and I saw NO there are acutely sick patients. nurse: you cannot treat people like this, if you cannot handle this situation maybe you are not cut out to be a doctor. I firmly raised my voice for her to stop or I will report her. She reported me to my attending who laughed at her, and thanked me for stabilizing the patients. The other nurses thanked me too. She just doubled my stress that night, but hey no one died and everyone actually had great outcomes at the end of the night. Some people are just very dumb.......
