What are some red flags of a bad friendship?

My best friend of over 10 years does this a lot. For 95% of our friendship, he would get mad if I called him stupid or dumb in a joking way, because he acknowledged that he knew I was much smarter in general. Now that I'm basically fucking my life up for the last year, and not progressing for many years after high school, it's 100% obvious that he sees himself as superior. I can't get through one deep conversation without him bringing his psych degree stuff up to basically mansplain why he is right no matter what because of his education. It doesn't even have to have anything to do with psychology, and yet, he must bring his psych perspective, and make it the be-all-end-all reasoning for why he is right.

This quote was said in front of me and our newest close friend: "I just wish I had some people to talk to about this stuff. It's so difficult to find people that can understand what I'm saying these days."

I'll always love him like a brother. He'll always be my best friend, so I'm trying to be understanding, and trying to give perspective and call him out when he gets like this. So far it's futile. Makes me feel like he doesn't respect me at all, considering our history when it comes to education. Apparently you need college to be smart about complex topics and vocabulary.
