What are some truths that no one likes to admit?

I see what you're saying too, it is a somewhat bigoted position. Probably, because of bad experiences I've had with Christianity, so maybe I'm being close-minded. I'll think about that.

That being said, there are some Christian churches that are cult-like. But most Christians, like Baptists (never was one but have been to services) don't seem like extremists or cultists.

One the big things that bothers me about religion though, is that religions can hinder their follower's education, whereas atheism does not (unless you think of strange cases). For example, when learning about ethics, a believer might say, "I do what is in <insert religious text> because that is what 'God' says to do, and what God says is right, is right."

The normal, logical response is something like, "well, why should we all adhere to the word of God, especially non-believers?"

"Because the <insert religious text> is divinely delivered, and it says it should be believed, and is the word of God."

So the argument ends, in circular fashion. A discussion of ethics can't be had unless the person of this kind of faith doubts their faith. And wavering in this kind of faith is a normally a terrible sin. Unless, someone can step outside of their religion and question their religion, how can they ever know if its morality holds any merit? To do so would be a sin. You might say that you have done that. Then, good on you. But to think most Muslims or Christians do that is wishful thinking. I was taught from a young age that wavering from belief in Christ, even for a second, could lead to me burning in Hell for eternity (given that you die while in doubt mode). We were pentecostal.

Maybe your "type" of Christianity is different, and disagrees with those tenants. Doesn't that make your religion a different religion in a sense. One, uses fear tactics, the other is open to discourse. Strange that Christians would even group themselves together, if their belief structure was so different.

Sorry if that was all over the place. Don't have time to make it flow nicely.
