When I was in middle school, my choir was invited to a competition in Hawaii (the high school choir was also invited).

One of the parents vehemently argued against this, basically grabbing any possible reason to rally the rest of the middle school parents against it, and said we should go to a different competition. She argued everything from “middle schoolers shouldn’t go on a trip with high schoolers!” to “Hawaii should be reserved for something special like my daughter’s honeymoon, not wasted on a school trip” and “it’s way too expensive”. Eventually she got enough other parents against it for the idea to be scrapped and we went somewhere much less exciting.

A few months later it came out that they were having a family trip to Hawaii around the same time and she just wanted to go somewhere else for the choir trip instead of Hawaii twice.
