What are subtle red flags at a job interview that say, "Working here would suck"?

This happened to me twice back in 2006 when applying for jobs online (which might be the reason) and was scheduled for two interviews. I was moving almost 3 hours away and wanted to secure employment first so I made the drive. First time was Sears, who had absolutely no record of my scheduled interview - left because they just tossed their hands up in the air.

The second was Medical Weight Loss. Dear god. I make the drive, show up for the interview and again, no record of it. The two employees there are acting real weird about me being there (understandably) and call the manager who comes in 30 minutes later to interview me. She asks what my total monthly bills would be (I was 21 and dumb) and tell her, she says she's unsure about hiring me because I'll make enough hourly to cover my bills so it won't motivate me to sell commission. She also talks about how they rope customers into buying their products but don't reveal the price until the last minute and wanted to know how I felt about that.

Anyway, she calls later, I don't answer and she leaves a message offering me the job. Never call back and she eventually calls leaving a second message very irritated saying 'you know I was taking a chance by offering you this position and now you're not going to take it?' makes you wonder how she treats actual employees.
