What are your doubts with Shenmue 3?

When Shenmue 1 & 2 came out they were awesome games. I honestly don't remember playing a game with quick time events and a living breathing world. We may be used to games like Far Cry and Skyrim, but these games were a few years ahead of amazing games like Morrowind.

Now looking at the Kickstarter it only seems to advanced between 50k - 100k per day. I don't see this game pulling in six million in the next twenty two days. Shenmue was never a hugely popular game to begin with.

YS may not be able to make an open world game, but honestly he will never be able to create a AAA open world game he did with Sega today. Open world games are different today. They are huge worlds with complex NPC, quests, side-quests, etc. They take years in devlopment. YS maybe able to create an open world game, but don't think you will be getting a competitor to Fallout 4.

Shenmue 3 will be an amazing game if they do not try to make the locations more open filled with talking NPCs. They can have that if time and money allows, but there are more important features that should be looked at.

He said multiple times in various articles he wanted Shenmue 3 to be different than just an open world game.

Think of games like Telltale. That is mostly all a story driven game with quick time events. Take that for the base of the game. Maybe not so much the branching storylines, but a deep story.

Then think of games like Mass Effect of KOTOR 2. How dialog and player choices effect the NPC around them.

Then add in a really neat battle system and RPG levels in that system.

He could give us an amazing game. It doesn't have to be open world to do that.
