What are your “right girl, wrong time” stories?

Dated a girl from another country. We were big time in love. But she and I were both 23. Neither of us set in a career and I had at the time a bunch of student loan debt. I didn’t know how I was gonna fare and I thought the same with her. When she told me she was going to be leaving, she said say the word and she would stay. All of that stuff, plus me thinking I wasn’t worth it for her to leave her family back home, didn’t ask her to stay. She was heartbroken but we held on together for the rest of her time here. It wasn’t an “fuck off” breakup so we promised each other that we would stay friends. But that got tougher over the years. Finally just a few months ago I reached out after some radio silence between us and told her that we couldn’t be friends anymore. We weren’t on that same wavelength anymore even as just friends and the regret and “what if” aspect was sometimes too much for both of us.

It’s sad but I guarantee if she and I met now that I’m debt free and have a good job, I’d probably have a ring on it already.
