Both of my Great Grandfather's I knew about, were German Soldiers. One of them was an SS-Officer. He survived the war and to his last day, he wore his uniform and was proud of it. Most of his offspring have to same mindset he must've had back in the day.

I'm happy my father and I left this part of the family.

The other one wanted to be a Farmer who just bought a farm to have a good and simple life.
My Grandmother was just born, when he was forced to fight for Germany, like a lot of German Soldiers at that time. He returned once after a while but it was the last time he saw his family. My Grandmother and her Mother lost the farm and everything else. It was a pretty bad time.
