What are your thoughts on humans naturally being theists?

I think the natural inclination is to wonder and explore but with the advent of language, it seems both logical and presumptuous at the same time that it brought with it, sociopolitical ideas and claims of "knowledge" and human authority...

I think, under such circumstances, it might be natural for some to hope that there is someone, somewhere, who is "good" and knows what's actually going on but it must be equally natural for others to take up that banner, twist it to serve their own interests and claim it as a testament against their enemies.

Is that what happened? Probably not but what's "natural"? Or, rather, what could possibly exist that isn't?
