What armour items should I buy for slayer/pve?

For Jad

  1. Prayer switching: You're going to want to keep an eye on his movements (not his sound) as you may have already figured out. The noises are too similar, at least in my opinion, to reliably allow you to kill him. I'll assume you know the very basics such as what movement for what attack so I will skip over that, but the main point to remember as far as prayer switching is to stick to the prayer from his prior attack until you see a different attack. A common strategy for people in strategy guide/videos is to jump back to range, which I have never found to be consistently better. If he attacks with mage, you're on mage until he doesn't, because sometimes he will repeat himself. The repeats are the time to restore prayer/health (do not forget to pot back up with a super restore and ranging/bastion potion so you're not trying to kill him with like 50 range after the Sara) as well as tag any healers (which I will touch on next). Don't get greedy and try to pot up to much or tag all the healers in one go. Prayer is absolutely the number one focus as he will 1 hit KO you if you mess up, especially more than once.

  2. Tagging the healers: At half health healers will spawn around Jad and begin to heal him back to full health. I prefer to bring a Crystal Bow swap from blowpipe for the 10 square attack range (and it can be left on rapid and still fire at maximum range as well as not requiring an extra ammo space which means you can use blessing for +1 prayer instead). The same as noted above applies here as well, do not get greedy. One healer per prayer switch, and preferably, I like to do it only when he repeats so I have a few extra seconds. A good prayer setup for the healers as they will begin to attack you after tagging them is Eagle Eye + Steel Skin + Protect Mage/Range. This will allow you to tank the healers much easier than without and will let you focus on Jad instead of trying to get to a safe spot to kill them all. They do not need to be killed to kill Jad, but out dpsing them is nearly impossible at your level.

  3. Blowpipe: Use Addy darts throughout the caves but on the last 360 (the orange 360 is where Jad spawns so kill the red one first then get orange to about half health) swap out your Addy for Dragon darts. This will allow you to kill Jad much quicker, thus saving you many prayer switches which is where all the error comes in. I like to bring 100+ ddarts into the cave for Jad but usually only need about 25-50. It is better to have extras that you easily sell back then get to the end and run out.

  4. Gear setup: My gear setup, and I have found this to be the true method for saving pots for the later waves as well as saving cash on big ticket items such as Armadyl is as follows

Helm of Neitiznot Fury (could swap for Anguish at your budget) Archers i Monk's Robe Top (bring Black d'hide body/blessed body for Jad switch only if you are able to conserve potions for the first 30 waves (I will get to this next) Black d'hide chaps/blessed chaps Devout Boots (I prefer the prayer bonus here over the range bonus from Pegs as the bp is going to let you pretty much cruise through the waves regardless Ava's device Barrows Gloves Blessing for ammo slot Crystal Bow for healer swap

This setup along with 12 Saras/Super Restores and 2 Ranging/Bastions is a solid all around setup. You will then have the Crystal Bow and Dragon darts as your final two inventory slots. If you do feel the need to bring a body swap I would drop a super restore if you will be using monk's robe/devout boots as you should be good there.

  1. Monsters: The order in which you kill the monsters is very important. During the first 30 waves you will not have to deal with the 360s so your prayer should remain off and overall you should conserve as many supplies as possible. I do like to throw on protect range on the waves where a 90 ranger and 180 spawn together as you may get stuck in your safespot and don't want to take too much damage from afar. For wave 31+ you must pray Protect Mage. If you need to log out turn on protect mage during the dialogue when you log back in or you could get hit for huge damage. It literally should never be turned off unless you got a lucky 360 spawn on a specific wave where you were already in the Italy Rock safespot and were able to kill the 360 first. Otherwise, 360 comes last and you can basically pretend he isn't there at all, making the waves basically repeats of waves 1-30. At wave 50+ everyone is going to be spawning together, so I like to Protect Mage + Eagle Eye + Steel Skin and actively search for the 90 to get him out of the way, then you can remove the two combat prayers and return to your safespot.

Ideally, you'll want to kill 90 > 22 > 180 > 45/22s > 360. This strategy is not referenced as commonly in the guides, but it is a surefire way to avoid taking damage, and since you'll have a higher prayer bonus than many of the guides call for, you'll find you have more than enough prayer to get you through to the end, especially if you basically left it off the entirety of the first 30 waves.

  1. Other tips: Pot up before you go in. I like to Sara brew to max hp+, then restore then range pot (that is the order anyways during the caves but this will give you an extra boost for the early waves so you can conserve supplies on a full inv).

Do not be afraid to take a bit of damage to avoid a lot of damage. If a 180 is barreling towards you and there is a couple of 45s nearby, tank their hits over getting hit for 25+ from the 180. On that note, don't be afraid to flick that Protect Melee on if need be, it won't be for long enough to cause any problems with your super restore quantity.

The waves are infinite (well, I believe the timer is 6 hours for log out but for your stats we'll say infinite) meaning if you need to chill in the Italy Rock safespot when just a 180 is left to get a bit of health back or to wait for another blowpipe spec for heal, go for it.

Do not bring Guthans, it will only hurt you. Many guides call for it yet they are always utilizing strategies that any person who would be reading the guide probably won't be able to do without some real practice. Even one mistake flicking the 180 can cause more damage than it is worth. This is definitely an opinion not everyone shares though, so experiment with what you like. I still prefer to have the extra pots.

I'm probably missing a few things but that should cover the basics.
