What baby names are you SICK of hearing?

I don't want to sound like a dick, but a lot of those people are disconnected from Africa by over 400 years. Most have a difference by over 200 years at least due to the outlawing of slave imports in the early 1800s. Black people aren't necessarily African by any means. This doesn't even begin to delve into the fact that Africa literally has thousands of cultures and is not unified like the general perception leads people to believe.

I do agree that they have a long history of issues in this country but most black people living today are far more ingrained into american culture than any African culture. Its not by choice but that doesn't eliminate the huge cultural gap between African Americans and African people. Its pretty shocking when many African Americans know less about these differences than I do, and I'm not even particularly knowledgeable on the subject myself.

I mean one thing that you really have to consider is that while people of African descent were being enslaved, then oppressed in the US, completely different things were happening in Africa. African countries iirc essentially became colonies to several European countries which completely fucked with the stability of African communities. In fact, the lines drawn by the countries today were those caused by Europeans, not by Africans.

In fact, Africa's culture evolved in the exact opposite way that the US population of African Americans did. The US was a nation formed mainly by European descent who took advantage of many races while Africa was a continent overtaken by Europeans. Africa's history has more in common with native american people of the US than African Americans do.

We could also make the same argument about Irish people who for the longest time were deemed less valuable than black people because as dehumanizing as slavery was, it did ensure some sort of value. As fucked up as that is. To 1800s america Irish people were disposable as assigned to the worst work because they were desperate to flee crippling famine. However most people of Irish descent don't really talk about it, especially the further removed they are. Asian people also had a disposable status, to the point where Chinese people were not allowed to immigrate into the country for over 90 years, until the mid 60's.

By the way, a ton of the names were either corruptions of English words or were plain old random bullshit put together. The names I saw did not need the extra punctuation marks for proper pronunciation and many times I was corrected in spelling a name that could logically be spelled in English. The names I saw did not resemble the names you linked me in most cases (and let me tell you, you can tell the difference 90% of the time) but I did glance over the list so there may be some I'm incorrectly grouping.
