What Bernie Sanders Has Already Won. Win or lose, the Vermont senator will stand as a historic figure in the Democratic Party.

Remember when Obama ignited a new vision of peace, prosperity, and goodwill?

Yeah, that was five minutes of fun.

I really don't understand this line of thinking. Obama's the first president to support gay marriage, the first president to give the U.S. any sort of form of universal health care, he declined to use federal powers to stop four states from legalizing marijuana, pulled ground troops out of Afghanistan and Iraq, ended "Don't Ask, Don't Tell", normalized relations with Cuba, signed a peace deal with Iran, not to mention the fact that the economy is in much, much better shape than it was during Bush's last fiscal year in office.

That's fucking progress. Easily the most progress this nation has seen since LBJ, and arguably since FDR over seventy years ago.

Peace, prosperity, and goodwill?

Eight years ago, Bush's last budget year, we had 10% unemployment, two wars going on, and an Iran that was openly antagonizing us.

All of that has completely changed.

"Single payer" and "public option" were one of about a dozen healthcare issues that needed to be addressed including "pre-existing conditions", and being dropped from your parents' insurance plan if you didn't have a your own insurance 3-6 months after graduating high school or college, among others. Now the "public option" and "single payer" are the very next steps!

The national dialogue is completely different than it was under Bush or Bill Clinton. That someone like Sanders even has a chance in this election is largely due to how far left Obama has pushed this country from where it was eight years ago.

I would absolutely say that he has given us more peace, prosperity, and goodwill than we could have hoped for at the time he took office.
