What is the best caster to start cygnar with and why ?

Thanks for the tip on formatting, I'm completely new to reddit.

Generally the game is balanced around 50 point armies. If you play very small games then you'll have slightly ridiculous amounts of focus all in one place and it ends up being rather silly. At 35 it should be much better but 50 is what it's balanced for. Scenario becomes a must around 25, but again, 50 is love 50 is life.

I asked about ages because this is a super complicated game and when my 13 year old cousin got super excited to play I had to let him down gently cause playing with him would be much more aggravating than it's worth.

Before tips with Cygnar, which is not my area of expertise, here are some general tips. Be aware of activation orders. Often I have fucked up my own turns by attacking with the wrong guy first. Particularly with ranged attacks, if your target is in melee with one of your own dudes you take a huge penalty and can even hit your own guy.

This one gets its own paragraph: THREAT RANGES. When someone charges they go their SPD +3inches. BE AWARE OF HOW FAR AWAY SOMEONE IS DANGEROUS. This sounds obvious but the first game I ever played I lost specifically because I let myself get 2 inches closer than I should have. It was not good for me. Reach is powerful because it extends this range without making you get closer. Ask your opponent if he has speed buffs lol. Just today my caster got almost killed by a heavy warbeast over 16 inches away. And Khador casters are tanky.

Practice makes perfect. Cygnar is a hugely varied faction with a whole lot of stuff. They can make tanky lists, shooty lists, some fast lists. You have a huge amount of stuff to learn before winning any tournaments my friend :P.

Tips for using Stryker1 and Caine1. Caine1 is probaly not super favoured in a jack only matchup, which is why I gave him the jacks that go through armor in the last message. He can shoot a bunch and then teleport back really well, and his feat will hurt everything in his range a whole bunch. Note that in a battlebox style game you lose if all your Jacks die, so he can't run forever. Snipe lets him shoot from far away. Thunderstrike is fun cause it slams people far away. Read the slam rules for details but it's awesome. Stryker1 has a different playstyle his weapons all cause disruption so your opponent's jacks won't be so useful.Arcane shield is one of his best spells, he should have it on something pretty much always. Earthquake is super awesome cause knocked down models are automatically hit by melee attacks and have def5 against ranged ones. use his feat the turn you expect to get charged and laugh.

I would say buy the card deck if you can as well as warroom. I like having cards but if it's too expensive then don't bother as warroom will work fine.

The last thing I'll say is to avoid worrying about being super competitive until after you know the game better. I recomend avoiding Haley2 as she is your best caster and will make the opponent super unhappy if played right. Haley 1 is not quite so broken though. If you want help making a shopping list for the entire faction just ask, but soon it might be time for you to join the Cygnar forums over on privateer press and ask them questions about Cygnar. I play Khador and a little Circle so I'm not hugely familiar with Cygnar.

Best of luck! :D
