So… what critical story details are hidden in the Datalog

what are those details? What’s missing from cutscenes that you think is absolutely vital to the plot of the game?

I actually missed a general understanding of the world and how everything works. And how everything was build up. I had so much questions about everything. Many of those concept just were to new or different to have an accurate idea. Today it might be different because there are so many other games out there.

I can only remember a few things.

The idea that fal'cie are godlike beings but are actually machines was hard for me to grasp. If they are machines, someone must have built them. But how could they be gods if someone else created them. So there must be something like higher gods. Then I didn't understand why there is actually Cocoon Fal'Cie and Pulse Fal'Cie. Is this just something they made up on their own or does it have actual spiritual relevance? Why do they just pick and choose people to do tasks for them? And why can L'cie only become a Crystal or a Cieth? Neither seems to be a worthwhile option for a person.

A lot of things were probably explained better in the sequels. But when there was only FF13, I didn't understand much of all that. And that's why I never felt like it meant anything to me.
