What deal breakers did you have to give up to find love?

My perception of lawyers (having met a handful socially): aggressive, combative, won't let an argument die, ambitious (in a sort of bad way, i.e. grasping), obnoxious, manipulative, blowhard know-it-alls. Later in life (because of occupational hazards): jaded, corrupted, possibly has picked up some unhealthy coping habits. Charming, though - fun, intellectual, witty, etc.

I'm a woman, fwiw; I'd apply these stereotypes to both genders but probably more so to men. (I would expect women to be more stressed owing to probably working harder and possibly experiencing greater role conflict.)

If it's any consolation, I'd rather hang out with lawyers than doctors, and definitely prefer them to engineers. I like lawyers who've left their professions quite a lot, actually. (Because they're usually clever and fun, and either too soft for what sounds like a brutal environment, or unwilling to put up with it.)

(Don't get me started on engineers. Bump up the know-it-all factor to 20 and add cognitive rigidity & usually sexism.)
