What do you have a degree in, and what is your actual job?

I actually got to, IIRC, 3rd or 4th semester in the Ed program, but at the first 'wash out' class, the prof did me a HUGE favor. It was the first class where you had to go do actual time working with kids in schools for a few days, always with a teacher and not expected to do your own lessons or anything, just sorta hanging around / helping out / getting a feel for it, but it was the first class where they started getting down to the nitty-gritty of actual teaching.

Anyways, part of the class was there were lots of projects / papers, and they always had these really strict rubrics that they were graded on. The rubrics were obviously 'designed by committee', with basically zero room for creativity. I really balked at them, and after a few, went to office hours and told the teacher how pointless it was to do a project that was basically ticking all the boxes in the rubric, how it felt so artificial and awful. She looked me dead in the eye and said that if that was how I felt, I probably would not enjoy teaching. Wasn't mean about it or anything, just blunt honesty. I finished out the class, got a decent grade, and swapped majors.
