What do you do when people at work all engage in shallow political talking points?

I mean, it was quite normy in the days only a year or two before Facebook, when people were primarily using MSN Messenger and AIM.

And I liked it. It was fine. It looked like an extension of civilization. People didn't even question whether it was a positive thing. It looked like it just obviously was.

But shortly after that you social media, which seemed to ruin everything. The chat rooms, forums, and instant messenger which had been the basis of the Internet for years, became ghost towns and died off within a few years.

I was wonder WTF everyone was doing. "WHY would you trade this stuff for Facebook? Are you that dumb and shallow?" Apparently they were.
