What does an IT coordinator working for a high school typically do for duties around the school? Monitor WiFi traffic? Install network firewall? Install antivirus for computers? How does this compare to a network administrator?

Oh hey! I was an IT coordinator for a school!

If you work at the school itself, you're basically "instructional support". I called it help desk with inventory control. Teachers will call you up for email issues, software troubleshooting, printer's not working, etc. The networking, firewalls, hardware repair and all that were handle by the district IT team, off site. I was just there to support the teachers and track inventory, all the "higher" level stuff was left out of my hands.

That being said, it was an awesome first IT job! I got to do many different things and really felt like I was apart of the school as a whole.

If you're looking for a net admin, this is not it. But I can't recommend it enough if it's your first job in IT.
