what does "happiness = performance - expectation" mean to you and how is this applied into today's society?

I think this is a pretty limited and simplistic view of happiness and untrue most of the time but there are some cases where it works. Also I’m pretty sure they mean like... joy. Happiness in the moment rather than lasting happiness, the kind of happiness people actually care about.

The same movie is way more fun to watch if you go in without being hyped about it first.

It’s a lot more exciting to see you passed a test you thought you failed than it is to pass a test you thought you did fine on.

I don’t really have any idea how society applies that though or what that would even mean. What dumb class is this lol?
