What does it mean when a film satirizing the modern rich and exploring economic inequality is embraced by the Oscars?

Not sure what the other guy is talking about but you are right in that most modern leftists would argue these people's interests are so sufficiently aligned with the capitalists' that they may as well be them. If it walks like a duck...

The ultimate question is where would these individuals ally if wide-scale worker's action took place. Some would no doubt stick to principle (assuming they're left-leaning) but many, probably most, would align with the capitalists or, at least, offer a third-way that would compromise both sides while still protecting their assets as much as possible. Such a thing is completely opposed to leftism.

In essence, we've just described the modern political landscape: pro-capitalism Neoliberals and conservatives; Left-leaning progressive liberals that will only tolerate a very slow worker's revolution; and then leftists. You see this play out already with affordable housing initiatives in liberal-voting areas of the country.
