We had a neighbor who got in a lot of domestic violence altercations with her youngest’s father; the most memorable moment was me waiting in the dark for an hour debating whether to call 911 as she was chasing him around with a knife. As awful as that sounds, it was understood that if we ever called cops on them they would retaliate (they were dealers), and frankly nothing would improve or change if we got involved. They always threatened to call the cops on each other but never did. He would use her house to run drugs, which he would “hide” under a laundry basket that he brought in on the same day every week lol. Then she had the nerve to leave us a letter complaining we were traumatizing her teenaged son by having sex in our kitchen. She claimed we were right next to his bedroom - which was their kitchen. Also I don’t think that would traumatize a thirteen year-old boy. She had loud sex too but we never complained; she was just jealous she wasn’t getting laid at the time.
She was replaced with a 3-generation family of five that was even worse. I don’t have enough time to get into detail but we would hear the adults beating and threatening to kill each other about once a week. They would also freak tf out if anyone called the cops so the block collectively gave up on them. And of course they never pressed charges against each other either. I feel some sympathy for them being too broke to live separately from each other (which was the cause of all the fighting), but they also could have saved up the $100 or so they used for weed every week. They had construction jobs with the state which meant decent pay for HS graduates.
