What have you done in your world that you've taken a nonstandard approach for?

Here’s a quick sample:

1) Apocalypse was caused by the fallout of a massive space battle between aliens, flooding radios with maddening infrasonic communications at the height of the Cold War and having kilometre long ships crash land onto earth.

2) Semi realistic airships bc I have a copy of the principles of aeronautics and a lot of free time.

3) Weird post apocalyptic schizo-tech set during that weird period around the Franco-Prussian war bc its 200 years on and most technology and know how has been lost.

4) Morally grey without boring as fuck grimdark wankery (at least I hope)

5) It’s set in Mongolia! I thought about setting it in America or something but the yanks are the centre of enough universes.
