What event happened in your life which caused some character development for you?

My cat was incredibly "tired" for 3 days straight, getting worse throughout that time period to the point of not being able to move. I fought my parents every one of those 3 days because they didn't want to take her to the vet and spend money, thinking she would get better by herself. They went from "she's just in heat" to "it's too late to save her". In the evening of the third day I finally got my father to take me and her to the vet. There she suddenly started panicking and trying to run with a strength i never saw coming out of her so I had to hold her down while the vet was taking care of her. Then she suddenly stopped and died in my arms. I broke down crying. It was my nineteenth birthday. The vet said that she was poisoned and that even taking her to him half an hour earlier would have saved her. Now I trust my instincts much more and people need to earn me listening to them. I trust the vet and doctors more than i will ever trust my parents ever again
