What event happened in your life which caused some character development for you?

Immigration. More specifically as a kid with parents who had no intention to work or assimilate in the new country. Moving to a completely new environment is very difficult, and it is particularly difficult when it seems like I was on my own learning the new language and culture. It also sucks because I did not have any basic work/career advice at all because they never worked a single day in the US. I am pretty sure I did many things that were not culturally acceptable/likeable and as a result I was probably very disliked until later in college when I started to figure things out.

It really helped me a lot though. Once I figured things out everything seemed a lot easier than others have said. I also developed great adaptation skills. I am now in med school and am doing fine. My fellow classmates have complained about how difficult it is to go through medical training, but in the back of my mind I know so far nothing is even comparable in terms of difficulty to what I have experienced.
