What To Expect This Year

Again, you're reading things into what I'm saying. I didn't say they should stop considering a linux port. If 4.1% of Steam Mac users are getting a port, they should always be considering the viability of 0.9% of Steam Linux users also getting a port.

But even then, there is no good way of running PoE on Mac right now, which has over 4x the amount of users according to the steam hardware statistics. PoE runs great on Linux via proton already, without them sinking any work in whatsoever.

Whilst a native port would be great, I just don't think they should do one right now. Instead, I want them to focus on technical improvements for the Vulkan renderer for all platforms, I want them to make the game engine run better in general. That benefits everyone, far more than 0.9% of the player base. It would probably benefit linux users more than a native port at this point.

Yes something could go wrong with the proton solution. Of course, that would suck. But again, I think that's unlikely now everything's working. Your example of Rocket League doesn't hold up in my opinion. If you look at protondb for Rocket League, it's rated at platinum and has been for years, and the only people to complain of a sound issue in the last year are complaining about the native linux port, not the proton version. It sounds like that's an issue with your system/setup more than proton.
