What 'family secret' did you learn that totally shocked you?

My great grandfather was playing the trumpet in the SS for Adolf. He was Part of the “Musikkorps der Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler“.

His uncle was “Kolonialherr“ (colonial master) in Windhuek, Namibia ( Deutsch-Süd-West).

Another one from my family fought from september 39 until may 45. He was in Poland, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Norway, Russia, Italy, back to France, back to Belgium, back to Germany and then POW in Germany. Was in the army until 41, joined the navy, was stationed in Russia later on (no boat hehe) and then served later on in France at Operation Overload. He was in the Feldlazarett ( field hospital) three times. Was ill and didnt had do defend omaha beach and all the other terrible things. This guy saw so many people die and he killed people, but there was no hate after the war. “We bombed them, they bombed us. We killed them, they killed us. They did their duty, we did ours. So be happy to have peace in Europe.“ He never really got over the war..

The best secret is: when my grandpa died, his best friend was supposed to marry her. But its crazy that my aunt looks like my step grandpa, even though she was born when my grandpa was in hospital and dying from cancer. No one never mentioned it, but the resemblance is obvious.

For a long time, I thougt grandpa was a lone child. I askes him why his parents didnt have another child. They did, ir got killed while playing with a grenade dropped by the RAF a day before.

Its crazy how much the history affects my Family. So many hideous stories they could tell. But of course, no one was a nazi. “they had to do what they did“..

And my cousin impragnated my exgirlfriend. I always wore a condom, he did not.

My grandmother got shot in the legs two times by a drunk friend with an air rifle on the same day. Old times back then, both got their ass whooped.

Yeah sorry for that english, just imagine a fancy deutschen Akzent.
