What famous person essentially cancelled themselves because they couldn't stop being stupid?

She could have gone with a nuanced approach. She could have raised concerns about female only spaces, or sports etc. There are complex issues that deserve nuance.

Instead she seems to be somewhat gleeful in her dislike and denial of all trans women. Not sure I've heard her position on trans men, but I doubt it's charitable.

Trans people are not hurting her, or affecting her life in any way. They just want to live happy, free lives like anyone else. Yes, There are nuanced issues of concern for women in some situations perhaps, but that debate won't be forwarded or enhanced by pouring hate on it.

It seems odd she would choose this hill to die on as it hurts her image in a core group of her fans.

But it's likely that she doesn't see it as a hill she will die on. It's likely she sees it as righteous and everyone who disagrees is wrong.

Harry Potter continues to be popular. She will continue to be rich. Sadly it seems that while the fantastic beasts first movie was pretty good, but the next ones did way more damage to the Harry Potter franchise than her opinions on trans people.

Mostly I think it's sad she is contributing to the hate towards a marginalised group, and seems so unconcerned about the consequences. She could just... Not. She could see the pain it causes and decide not to approach the issue the same way. But it seems she lacks both the sympathy and empathy required.
