Is The Guest List by Lucy Foley worth reading ?

I recently tried 'The book of longings' and not impressed. I had high expectations from this book and finally when I read it I didn't find anything that I was looking for. The good - the language is lucid, descriptions are well researched and create a picture of a different time and place. However, the descriptions felt too loaded at times. I felt the authors researched well and had a list of things to be included and some paragraphs were stuffed with those details beyond spontaneity.

The other aspect is it felt didactic, an example - "When I was able to read the scriptures for myself I discovered there were women. To be ignored, to be forgotten, this was the worst sadness of all... ... .... I would be chronicler of lost stories. It was exact the kind of boldness mother despised. " Just like the descriptions, this is an extremely loaded paragraphs, author seemingly striking out things to include from a list. Extremely preachy, shoehorned feminism.
