What food isn't as healthy as people think?

Oh god, please don't get me started.

I'm a bodybuilder and was a certified personal trainer back during undergrad. So I know my stuff when it comes to fitness.

I had an uncle who was diabetic due to obesity. He was told by his doctor to go on a Keto (No-Carb) diet. He says sure, great.

Every time my extended family where to meet out for a dinner he'd ask for his meal to have no carbs in it, customize everything, and typically be pretty annoying about it to the server. I always thought, good for him, but was wondering why he made no progress.

Once we visited him and the family and his home and for dinner he had a massive plate of black beans. I decided not to say anything, but say to myself "oh, that's why, he's not actually doing the diet, just pretending to out in public"...desert comes out and he gets a big giant plate of fruit. Eats the whole thing.

At this point I need to say something: "Hey, Uncle, I thought you were on a no carb diet?!"

Him: "Uh, yeah. I am?"

Me: "Yeah, you know Black Beans and Fruit have large amounts of carbs right? You had at least 120g of carbs just at this sitting."

Him:"...uh, no. Those aren't carbs...bad carbs are pasta and bread. These are good carbs, and have no effect on my no-carb diet or diabetes."

Me: "That's really 100% wrong, all carbs are carbs, just because it's not an unhealthy food doesn't change the fact that there are carbs in it. That will derail you're diet, and without doubt effects insulin and diabetes."

Him: "Nope. Wrong."

Last I heard he's still over 300lbs so, I guess he showed me!
