What the fuck

I drive for uber and I think this is something a lot of drivers don't realize. You only save a significant amount of time if you can skip a red light cycle and only on particular red lights.

Basically on something like a 1 mile stretch to the next red light if you are speeding and bobbing and weaving to go 10 mph faster than everyone else but if you just hit that red light, you didn't really save any time. There are basically 4 light cycles on most red lights that actually matter (2 lefts and the the 2 straights). This basically means there's a 75% chance your speeding didn't matter because the light will already be red when you get there.
But its even worse than that because you are basically only like 10 seconds ahead of where you would have been had you just been driving normally. So basically if that 10 seconds doesn't cause you to skip the red light cycle it was pointless. If the green light is 60 seconds long, something like 16% chance you skip the cycle for the green light portion. But couple that with the 75% odds the light was already red when you got there and you got something like a 4% chance that your speeding was relevant.

My math isn't perfect but it should give you a general idea.

Obviously if you are doing a 300 mile trip you can save a significant amount of time speeding. But for general road travel the odds of you actually saving significant time is very low.
