This video is a good explanation of their initial appeal, at least to me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ug4KycJokng
This was the point that I jumped ship: https://www.reddit.com/r/h3h3productions/comments/7gqc8f/overview_of_the_jontron_racism_incident_for_those/ .
I had been initially attracted to his channel by his courage and humor; nothing about the incident mentioned in that post was courageous or funny. To me, it epitomized cowardice.
The overall message of his content nowadays seems to be the following:
Liberals are crazy
People on the right aren't that bad
There is no difference, in quantity or quality, regarding the sins and morals of both political parties (I'm using the religious language figuratively)
If you are my friend, it overrides any personal issue I have with your beliefs, and I deserve a cookie for it
I'm 23 and I feel too old for it. It's the sort of stuff I did in high school. Sitting around with my friends shit talking a world we didn't bother trying to understand. Then like I said in the post I linked, I don't think it's ethical to give views and attention to a channel that normalizes racism.
Multiple reasons why I jumped ship, any one of them by themselves would have been enough.
