What if then-President Barack Obama actually kept most of his "hope and change" promises from 2008, and Republicans did not become purely an opposition party? Would the US be as polarized as it is now, and would the world be as crazy as it is present day?

Whatifalthist, I'm honored to see your presence on Reddit. I agree with what you said abour how political hackery is not necessarily new in the US, and I was aware of that. But in Obama first few months, the bipartisan talks were allowed to drag on for months. I'm refering to the stimulus bill, and keep in mind, so many people were losing their jobs every day and every month. When Obama promises hope and change, the American public really took that seriously. People expected him to go big. I'm sure he was self consicious about there being a point where he just simply needed to go at it alone with Democrats if Republicans didn't budge. Whatifalthist, I disagree with what you said at the end where Obama didn't try to compromise. He really did many times over in his two terms with really no significant results or changes. I've tried to research the times where he tried using the bully pulpit,in order to rally the people to support his "hope and change" agenda, but this tactic was simply non existant. Whatifalthist, I would really like if you would tell me some examples were Obama didn't try to compromise, because I really can't find any examples of him really pressuring the opposition party.

P.S: It really is an honor to speak with you on Reddit. I don't have an expertise in history like you, but I try to do my best research where it counts in conversations like these.
