What inspires you to play KSP?

Nothing really inspires me to play this game anymore, at least not until 1.0 hits. Bear with me for a minute.

I thought that going to other planets and moons to see how different they are would be neat, and that building bases and stations would be cool, but it turns out that the only difference between the different bodies, once you get to the surface, is the color of the regolith and less gravity (save Tylo and Eve). Maybe there's an atmosphere too, which is rarer. And bases are pretty much worthless. They don't do anything except look pretty. Stations can be used for refueling, but you still have to send that fuel up. Karbonite and Kethane filled that gap but I would end up sending so much mining gear that I would have been better off sending bigger or numerous interplanetary ships to get to where I wanted to go.

I did send a bunch of seaplanes and boats to Laythe once, and it was okay for a while, but there's just nothing to do there. It's all sand and water with nothing to do, nowhere to explore. At that time my computer didn't run KSP very well so I was limited in what I could build; I built a much more powerful computer recently which has helped. I have tried Extraplanetary Launchpads in the past but it was too laggy once I sent all of the modules. I'd give that another try.

Locating easter eggs is neat, but trying to find them without something like SCANSat is basically impossible. They gave me a reason to do more than land, run experiments, plant flag, and immediately leave. A contract hinting towards an anomaly within an area of a square kilometer or two would be great.

It seems to me that, until stock resources are released and bodies are more than big colored marbles with barely any exploration value, I don't feel inspired to go to space. The thought of "now what?" crosses my mind any time I try to do anything. "I built this plane and it's very stable... now what?" is rather common. I could probably take screenshots of everything and post them here, but then KSP turns into Karma Collector 2015, which isn't how I want to view this game.

KSP is fun and I've enjoyed it, but I've run out of things to do after going to space and landing on a few planets. I don't think it's something mods can fix unless there's a terraforming mod out there, or something that changes the gameplay in extreme ways. I haven't lost hope though. 1.0 may be the spark that makes me want to play again.
