What do you think of Italian Americans?

I guess as an actual Italian immigrant in the United States for 10 years. they kind of irritated me, but it wasn’t really them as it was the fact that people can’t tell the difference between Italian Americans and Italian Italians. Like I’d meet people who tried to form some comradery on the fact that we’re both “Italian”, and have to be in the awkward position of not feeling the same way. Or people throwing “Italian” stereotypes at me that don’t have anything to do with actual Italy, but Italian Americans.

Like... As somebody from Milan, in modern day Italy, I really don’t feel much relationship to somebody whose grandparents moved to the states to get out of poverty in Sicily 70 years ago and have only ever known America since. I’m sorry, I just don’t.
