What kind of clothes do you wear for winter?

Congrats on interning abroad, it will be both fun and sometimes frustrating, but worth it for the unique experience.

As someone who came from Florida and went on to live in Rochester for 4 years, I didn't find it thaaat bad if you have an indoor job. You know your limits, and get pretty used to bracing yourself for the limited time you are outside and finding creative ways to limit it, so then most of the time you are inside with a heater in the deep winter. I feel like guides like this assume everyone is standing outside all day long for no reason. Nevertheless, it is still super helpful, so give it a read, and take the "uhoh, tropical-weather person is gonna die in the snow" narrative with a grain of salt, because I have seen people from islands and deserts adjust just fine.

Nevertheless, layering is pretty essential, and I've found that I don't own that many strictly winter tops, since usually the heater seems to warm places up enough that I can just layer a cardigan or sweater over my favorite summer/spring tops while inside, and layer on some more stuff plus a winter coat when I go outside.

The trickiest part will be commuting. If it is super icy, and the street cleaners are not there to salt, then function over form and I'll wear the appropriate boots, but otherwise, I'll just wear normal fashion boots/shoes/sneakers. Where I live now gets cold, but is always somehow 1 degree too warm to snow, so I mostly live in chelsea boots most days since they seem to go with everything.
