I’ve been to at least 25 doctors over the past 17 years (MDs, dentists, orthodontists, oral surgeons, physical therapists, etc.)
I gave up when the “TMJ Specialist” in my area told me that there is “no such thing as a “TMJ specialist”.”
He then literally referred me to a “TMJ specialist” in another city!
My cousin is a dentist. She that her dental school class was told that the best thing to do with a TMJD patient is to refer them to someone else, because it is not a condition that can be treated.
If you can find someone who actually knows what they are doing, you are extremely lucky.
I have placed my hopes in my regular GP doctor. I’ve been seeing him for over ten years. He is a great doctor and really seems to care. My TMJ-related pain is mostly now nerve-pain and he prescribed gabapentin, which has so far been a godsend.
Just keep searching, that’s all any of us can do.
