What I learned after getting my car totaled

Document. Everything. I had put thousands of dollars into my Outback. CB radio, trailer hitch with towing wiring, tint, vinyl black on the hood to cut glare, hardline dash cam, bull bar, off road lights, weather tech floor matts and rain guards – on that note the weather tech rain guards actually suck, don’t buy them. Winter tires and steelies, a full size spare, wilco offroad spare carrier with an OEM wheel, I could go on. Point is – keep receipts for all of this stuff and be ready to present it to insurance because it impacts the valuation of your car.

Sorry bud but your aftermarket modifications are not going to add much value to the vehicle, I just went through this with my '18 Mazda 3 being totaled. Trailer hitch, window tint, roof rack, and weather tech floor mats just added $50 to the value. Insurance gives little weight to these items. However if you add OEM options those will get you the full value, I paid $90 to add navigation(It's just an SD card) and that added $400 to my payout.

Also once your car hits the yard where it will be inspected and or auctioned you can expect the lot workers to start stealing parts from the vehicle(fuck you coparts).
