As a kid I shot plenty of times with historic groups like these.
The guns had to stay in a safe at the owner's house and could only be transported to the shooting range or events like this. Lots of people carry halberds, crossbows and guns. Stricter gun control rules were problematic at some point in the past, so they had to lobby to make an exception to these clubs. Some are 600+ years old and competitive shooting / drumming / flag throwing are a big part of these clubs. So you can image people weren't happy with the prospect of a part of it disappearing. They are already having trouble gaining new members.
- I guess it's more stigmatized to be part of these groups than it is to shoot, that's at least the cool part of it :P
- I don't know anyone with a gun (that isn't part of one of these clubs)
- There is no real gun culture though. Nobody brags or screams about their guns and they aren't viewed as a right or an accessory. At least in those groups.
