What made you start or stop believing in God?

For one... I keep praying that this particular question will quit showing up every day. Doesn't stop, ergo, no god. I'll send you money if you prove me wrong.

In addition, a million unanswered prayers as a toddler/child and a clear lack of any repeatable, reliable results from any religion ever pretty much sealed the deal.

Do you have any idea how many good people die and suffer? Despair? Hate or are cruel? How much pain is in this world? How many promises from religionists have been so clearly unfilled? How many people make their luscious living from profits from peddling fantasy to the mentally fragile? How many lives have been ruined in the name of god? How many opposing armies prayed to the same, exact god for victory? What we use (as a species) as our favorite excuse for genocide and cruelty beyond imagination?

What you believe in is DICTATED by where and when you were born, and little else. Universal truth depends on your random geographical appearance? Your parent's decision to fuck is 100% predictor of your initial religious indoctrination. Truth depends on the timing and placement of semen? That's some pedigree.

What thinking human can buy into such bullsht?

Still, as a subscriber to knowledge and science, I'm willing. Put the little deity out here where she can be seen and let's see some results. For a change. If it stands up to reason, I'll sign up.

Until then, the simplest solution is the best. No one runs this outfit. If a god ever existed, he long ago killed himself based on what his creation, humanity, has done in his name.

It's amazing that in 2016 (almost) people still divine the future from goat entrails, go through rituals to assure crop yields and football team successes, and really sincerely believe that a sequence of vocal utterances can change weather, life/death, illness/health, financial success. If we need proof that we evolve, consider that some humans abandoned magic (as fun as it is!) in favor of thought and work.
