What makes Calgary special?

A couple years ago we did a road trip across Canada to Montreal and drove back through the States staying a couple nights in pretty much every major city and I was honestly surprised at the lack of good multicultural food in other cities with the exception of Ottawa and Montreal. Like every city has multicultural food but it all seemed to be either cheap takeout or exceptionally expensive restaurants, or very Americanized.

In Calgary you can get really good food made with fresh ingredients at a reasonable price from pretty much every culinary culture; in other cities that means you're going to a restaurant that thinks their vying for a Michelin Star.
