What makes a character weak and are they annoying to read?

Portal fantasy where the transported would-be heroine turns out not to be the best at it. I hated the poor girl with a passion, though I could definitely see how she'd turned out like that.

If there was anyone more annoying and less adept at deciding anything (but for the bad decisions, those she made really fast) than Terisa Morgan from Mordant's Need, I probably threw the book away when I met them. I didn't throw Mordant's Need away because the books are really heavy (real door-stoppers) and I wasn't training for anything, and there are other more interesting characters to save the story. I just never dealt with her lack of anything resembling a spine.

Other than her, no one really stood out that much, except for some YA heroes and heroines that I can't really talk about since I tend not to finish the books.
