What makes you a New Yorker?

I was born and raised here, but went to catholic school :/

I’m friends with both transplants and lifers and I can think of a few things, any combination of which could qualify someone as a New Yorker. Where you grew up is not one of them lol.

  • Going to places because you like them, not because they’re iconic New York hotspots
  • Not judging weirdos
  • Being a weirdo
  • Not believing in borough supremacy except in the case of Staten Island, which isn’t New York City.
  • that being said, you’re not a New Yorker if you’ve never been to Queens or the Bronx.
  • Leaving the city and being the last person in the room to notice the sound of a siren or alarm going off.
