This article didn’t convince me at all. First of all, the writer implies that because someone is willing to risk their lives to move to another country, that their life is probably at risk in their home country. This is not true for obvious reasons.

The writer says this about Ayaan “She argues that the “refugee” working definition must be narrowed back down to its “core principle” of protection for the persecuted (not simply anyone who lives in a dangerous place).”

I agree with Ayaan here. Otherwise, half of Latin America could be considered refugees since they have the highest murder rates - by far. Murder rates that are sometimes on par with war-zones.
